Lorac Unzipped Palette Swatches & Review

Have you ever met a quiet genius? Someone who doesn’t draw a lot of attention to themselves, but as soon as you start talking to them, you realize they’re capable of saving or destroying the world? Well, that’s the Lorac Unzipped eyeshadow palette ($40). Obviously this palette isn’t going to save or destroy the world, but it is a quiet genius, maybe even an unsung hero.

Lorac Unzipped was released as a limited edition for Spring 2012, but they are still widely available. It contains 10 generous pans of beautiful, neutral tones, both shimmer and matte.

Like the Lorac Pro Palette, Lorac Unzipped comes with a mini tube of Lorac’s Behind the Scenes Eye Primer. The shadows in Lorac Unzipped are very nicely pigmented, and although they are soft, the texture isn’t quote as creamy as the Lorac Pro.  The texture is still wonderful though – definitely on par with Urban Decay’s Naked palette texture.

The colors are a good mix of golds, browns, bronzes, rose golds, and a nice highlight. In the palette, they look like a good mix of cool and warm neutrals, but I find that when they’re worn or swatched, they all go on a bit warm. This is a plus for me because I like warm colors, but those who are fans of cooler tones might be disappointed.

The nice thing about this palette is that it takes all the guesswork out of creating a nice, refined, neutral look. You could literally pick any combination of shades from this palette and they’ll look fantastic together. I like to use this palette when I’m in a hurry or my brain is a little foggy for precisely that reason! I also think this is a great palette for folks who are new to eyeshadow – their easy bendability and foolproof color selection make it ideal for someone who is still working on their technique.

It’s not as versatile as the 16 color Lorac Pro palette, so I don’t use it quite as often, but it’s still among my favorite palettes! There is something comforting about having a quiet genius in my arsenal.

Where to Buy

I bought mine from Sephora for $40, but it’s also available at Ulta. I did see them on eBay and Amazon, but they aren’t any cheaper in those places, and there is actually a seller on Amazon that is charging $130 for this palette!  I don’t even — yeah.

Skin & Tonics Rating

Performance: 4/5 – Great color payoff, long wearing, and very little fallout. Some of the wear a bit warmer than they look in the palette, though.
Quality: 3.5/5  – Lovely texture, but not quite as creamy as the Lorac Pro shadows. I wish the packaging was a little sturdier.
Value: 4/5 – $40 for 10 high end shadows is a pretty great deal!

Overall: 3.8/5

  1. These colors are beautiful. They look quite bronzy. Your eye look is gorgeous, too!

Thanks so much, Arielle! I agree – they are bronzy, which is nice (especially in the summertime) for me. Looking at them in the pans, I thought a few of them look like they would be cooler toned than they actually were when worn. Not a big negative for me but it could be for someone else!

  2. Pretty Eyes!

I want this palette! It is so pretty.

I am ready to write my…reviews… I’ll write them this weekend and email them to you? You can let me know what format or whatever you would like, and how you would like them to flow! 😀
