Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2 Swatches & Review

The top drawer of my makeup organizer is my favorite drawer. That drawer is filled with eye pencils and lips pencils, most of which are Urban Decay 24/7 products, and there’s just something about seeing that array of colors at my disposal that makes my morning feel like it’s full of potential; as if anything could happen. Maybe I’ll wear a sparkly blue liner today, or maybe a full on rainbow of liners – all the way up to my eyebrow. Maybe, just maybe, my dog will grow a unicorn horn, or perhaps if I pop this zit on my chin, I’ll discover it’s filled with gold glitter! WHO KNOWS? LOOK AT ALL THOSE COLORS. ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN. Though, usually what happens is I reach for a brown liner because I’m in a hurry, but I do like to spice it up on occasion, and for this reason, I was unable to resist the Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2.

This is the top drawer of makeup organizer. Someday I will find a way to wear all of them at once.

Ocho Loco 2 retails for $59, which is a steal when you consider that individual Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils retails for $19 each. The price for each pencil in this set breaks down to $7.38 a piece, or $6.13 a piece if you subtract the value of the sharpener (which normally retails on its own for $10).

That’s enough jibber-jabber for now – how about I show you some swatches already?

As you can see, all eight colors in Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2 provide excellent pigmentation, which is true-to-form for the 24/7 Glide-On pencils. All pencils glide on easily with no tugging or skipping, making them incredibly easy to work with. Most of the colors provided full, opaque pigmentation in single swipes, but I did have to do a second swipe for Ultraviolet to get it as opaque as I wanted. Ultraviolet is still excellent, however.

I get at least 11 hours of wear from these pencils before I see any fading – even then, fading is minimal and likely not visible to anyone but me. They are mostly smudgeproof, though I do find that I experience some very minor smudging with the deeper shades if it’s extremely humid. The smudging is very minimal, though – minimal enough that I still consider these pencils to be go-to products when I need lasting, waterproof eyeliner.

I'm wearing Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Mars for this look.

More Mars.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with this collection. I hope Urban Decay plans to do an Ocho Loco 3 set next year – I’ll be first in line to fork over my money!

Pros:
+ Excellent value
+ Stellar pigmentation
+ Great variety
+ Long-wearing
+ Waterproof
+ Easy to work with

Cons:
– Some minor smudging with deeper colors in extremely humid weather
– Ultraviolet needs an extra swipe to achieve fully opaque color

Skin & Tonics Rating:
Performance: 4/5 – Almost perfect – long wearing, waterproof, easy to apply. Some colors experience minor smudging in extreme conditions, and Ultraviolet sometimes needs an extra swipe.

Quality: 5/5 – Formula is very easy to work with – no tugging or pulling. Packaging is gorgeous and sturdy.

Value: 5/5 –  $6.13 a piece for eye pencils that normally retail for $19 a pop is the best deal in town.

Overall: 4.7/5

  1. Your giant drawer of pencils reminds me of those fold-up art kits for kids. I would personally be in favor of drawing them all on your eyes at the same time, if only just once for the photo op. Anyway, I can totally understand why you wanted these because they’re GORGEOUS.

    • Kerry

Yes! That’s it! It IS like a kids’ art kit – and you know, now that I mention it, I felt the same way when I opened a new box of colored pencils as a child as I do when I open this drawer.

And you know, I might just try the all-colors-at-once look just once. For science!

  2. I’m in love with Deep End and Mars, but all the colors are gorgeous! Thanks for showing us swatches. 🙂

    • Kerry

Agreed! I reach for Deep End and Mars often – they look especially nice swiped above the darker colors like Perversion and Crave.

  3. I have a tiny make up drawer that all the pencils get stuck in due to weird angles. Lol. Jealous of your organisation.

Have to say, Mars and Ultraviolet are gorgeous.

    • Kerry

I actually thought of you when I swatched Ultraviolet. After learning about your disappointment with the Chaos shadow, anytime I acquire anything bright blue I wonder if it would look purple on you!

  4. I love these swatches! I also totally love all of my UD liners that I have ever bought..I totally want to check out this set! xo!

I just got this on Sephora.ca for $30. INSANE. That’s 2.50 a pencil. You can’t get any drugstore pencils that cheap, except for Wet n Wild.
